At Cloud Over Nations, our commitment to transformative change is at the core of everything we do. We work tirelessly to bring about long-term, sustainable development in the remote and marginalized regions of Uganda. Our focus areas are rooted in our vision of a Uganda free from poverty, disease, and illiteracy.
In the communities we serve, gaining access to quality education often seems like an unattainable goal. Many children must undertake lengthy journeys to reach school, and others commence their educational journeys later than expected due to various obstacles. (Watch the videos below to hear firsthand interviews with children living on the chain of islands comprising Buvuma District in Lake Victoria.) Our education program stands out for its unique approach, as it brings early childhood development (ECD) learning opportunities to areas where they are currently lacking. Presently, we are actively training 5 female youth in the skills of Early Childhood Development (ECD) while simultaneously working towards establishing temporary yet respectable ECD village training centers. Additionally, we’ve initiated a program aimed at providing teaching skills in ECD to young mothers and school dropouts who are interested, granting them a second chance at life. This program not only transforms their lives but also ensures that every child has the opportunity to receive a strong foundational education.
Financial inclusion is a fundamental building block for reducing poverty and fostering prosperity. Our program aims to ensure that individuals and businesses in marginalized communities have access to useful and affordable financial products and services that meet their specific needs. By promoting financial inclusion, we empower communities to take control of their economic futures.
Access to quality healthcare is a cornerstone of a healthy, thriving community. However, in the remote island districts we serve, access to healthcare is a luxury. Our goal is to make quality healthcare services accessible to all by establishing village health centres that provide first aid, safe deliveries, HIV/AIDS sensitization, family planning, and treatment for various illnesses. Through these centres, we distribute essential medicines, including ARVs and condoms, contributing to better health outcomes.
Solving the climate crisis isn’t just about reducing carbon emissions; it’s about protecting people from harm. In our island communities on Lake Victoria, climate change poses significant challenges. We’re planning to prepare these communities to to start coping with and managing the impacts of climate change while preventing further damage to the environment. Our initiatives will include tree planting, promoting alternative cooking methods like briquettes and biogas, etc to foster climate resilience.
The island districts we target are characterized by the lack of professional teachers, the absence of kindergartens or preschools, late school starts for many children, and extreme poverty.
